Antique Elephant Bell

Brass bell manufactured in India.
These bells were used to tag animals near villages and cities to warn people walking on narrow paths of an approaching animal; they were also used to help locate more domesticated elephants. These items are traditionally more ceremonial than utilitarian. The sound is best described as deep, solid chime as opposed to a tinny ring common with cowbells.
